Almost a decade after winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance with The Hero, Zézé Gamboa brings us a sardonic historical drama about Joãozinho, a good-hearted, apolitical con man who pulls off a massive swindle at the expense of the Portuguese colonial administration the day before the Angolan independence in the 70s. Soon after, he finds himself hailed as a hero of the national liberation struggle.
DIRECTOR BIO
Gamboa was born in Luanda in 1955. He worked for the Angolan television for six years and he directed his first documentary Mopiopio in 1991. After several years as a producer for public television, he devoted himself to documentaries.
