Memento Mori is a compelling visual experience. This film brings the viewer into direct contact with the photographic world of Roger Ballen. His images are recognized as both haunting and powerful. Filmed in a darkened space and shot in black and white it is not apparent whether we are with the insane, imprisoned or in a fictional environment. The director delves into the complex, disturbing and humane world that pervades Ballen's photographs.
Saskia Vredeveld is a South African filmmaker who lives in Amsterdam, with over 20 years of documentary experience.
